According to some, over the past 3 weeks roughly 3 dozen of the ducks that freely roam downtown Swansboro have died. Officials are puzzled and residents are upset.
The State Department of Agriculture has examined the dead ducks and has ruled out “Bird flu” as well as Newcastle disease. However, they are unable to determine the culprit, according to spokesman Brian Long.
“We know much more about what it isn’t than what it is.”
The tests conducted also have not found any chemicals that would implicate human responsibility. And so, with the cause still a mystery, the tests will continue.
Officials and residents are closely monitoring the remaining duck population for any signs of trouble. Read the extensive article from the News and Observer website.
